I bought this to put in a cat house but the outside gets as hot as the ceramic heating element inside. Please do not place this where animals can touch it, they will be burned! I returned it.

This lamp reached minimum heat when first purchased. It wasn't until the power went out in our town that this lamp suddenly got so hot that you could hardly touch the glass. With a 50 gallon tank, the extra heat was badly needed!

I live in New England. The room where my birds live can be very cold in winter. So if you cover the birds with a lid and the heater is in the cage, they can sit next to the heater without burning themselves and this will maintain a temperature of around 68-70°C, ideal for the birds that night .

I've had this (100w version) for less than 6 weeks and it was on for a maximum of 10 hours on any given day and some days it didn't work at all. I hung it next to a plush rug for an elderly cat who roams around my home office but doesn't last long on hardwood floors, so it was treated better than it was sold. As others have said, there is no "on" indicator, and the cage wraps so tightly around the bulb that it can easily set fire to objects that are too close to it.

VERY UNHAPPY! It was advertised that the screen would not overheat to the point where the animal could burn itself. This is incorrect information. I ordered a large one which the seller said doesn't get hot on the outside and I received the item today, I plugged it in and the outside screen got VERY HOT. This is inappropriate. I spent almost $50 on it. I will try to get my money back. Do not buy this if you are going to use it where animals might come into contact with it as they will burn…

I unpacked the thing 20 minutes ago. It took me so little time to unpack it, remove the wrapping from the bulb, turn it on and check how warm it is. I'm already too hot to put my hands on it comfortably. This thing can't be safe for birds in a cage. Also, the cable is snap-proof, but do I have to run the plug and derailleur through the 1/2" cage bars? Most plug-in products that come with a cage have a smaller plug in the middle of the cable that can actually go through the bars. Not this one…

I bought this to provide a warming spot in an outdoor turtle enclosure when temperatures drop below 60 degrees. When I received it the heating lamp never got hot and rattled when I shook it. The power light is off so I toggled the switch back and forth for 10 minutes at a time. Support says it should start heating up in 10 seconds.
