It definitely washes away dirt. I've had a pretty bad leak on occasion, leaving drips of oil on the garage floor just below the fork. I thought I would have to do repairs, but I didn't expect that. I looked around for possible solutions and found these tools that people swear by. This was the only one I found on Revain with first class shipping so I went with it and although they are probably overpriced for what they cost. Just Buy It. My seals were really dirty. Unfortunately it turned out to be a blown seal but I wanted to take the forks apart and really clean the inside. The amount of road grime they pulled out of the seals and trunk was insane. I was surprised there was actually oil left with how much sand seemed to have accumulated.
