These lights were not too difficult for a beginner. I used sticky pads instead of screws and used velcro and clear hooks to hide the wires. The only problem I had was figuring out how to hide the excess wiring, but the closet wasn't a huge closet so they had to supply the extra wiring for people who needed to cover large areas. Bought two sets of these for accent lighting above kitchen cabinets and bookshelves in larger rooms. They look great and the dimming feature is amazing. I liked them so much that I bought another display case lighting set. I wish the kits were more personal - I have spare washers but no other parts (transformer, remote receiver) to use elsewhere. I will also say to be careful because the remote has a long range and works with all three of my kits at the same time. It's not too much of a problem
