Good, it works. Mainly

Don't count on it working. Your boat will sink. It works most of the time when you're around, but often gets stuck, both open and closed. There is no junk in it. I figured since the rule makes good pumps this would be a good reliable product too. It is not.

Pros
  • Tools and Housewares
Cons
  • Expensive

Stopped working after 2 months

I bought this to replace a faulty original float switch in 2002 on a 36ft sailboat that has been in good service for 18 years. I was glad it was the same size as the original and wiring and installation was a breeze. Two months later, on a summer cruise, I found it out of order when I was surprised by a full hold. Very disappointed. Such a mistake could cause the boat to sink if not recovered. I am particularly amazed that such a key component can fail so easily and quickly. The bottom is clean

You can easily lose battery if you don't hear the pump.

This float switch is the same as any other West Marine just cheaper. I haven't had any issues with this unit EXCEPT for the occasional bit of dirt getting in and it getting stuck in the on position. Luckily that happened in port and the batteries are connected to the charger, but if it happened while sailing it's easy to lose the battery if you can't hear the pump running. Otherwise it does what it is advertised to do. and I can't complain too much about it. What I might really need to do is…
