The glass bottom lets you see when the contents are running low. Well sized holes. Not too much; enough. So far I like these shakers and I recommend them.

Love these they look great in my kitchen they are durable. There are enough holes and they are ideally placed to properly distribute salt and ground pepper. The glass on the bottom is nice so you can easily see what you're taking (no P or S labels but they aren't needed if you can see well). The only downside is that they tend to pick up fingerprints and as with all pepper shakers, pepper dust gets on the top and needs to be wiped off from time to time.

Large selection of salt and pepper shakers. I replaced some of them that were on the top edge of my oven and the stoppers were rubber stoppers on the bottom. I couldn't find a replacement plug and had trouble with them wanting to fall out! This new set of salt and pepper shakers shows you what's inside below so you can always tell what's salt and what's pepper. They also have a screw top that makes filling a lot easier than most sets. Excellent purchase! would recommend.

***UPDATE #2***The screw thread on the lid does not go all the way in. They cover less than half of the lid - they let the contents sift. The company gets an A for service and a C for design. Using a shaker to "shake" and remove the lid to measure is a serious design flaw. Unfortunately, the metal part of the lid has come loose from the plastic screw at the top.
