Weak and badly built

A very terrible tool. The jaws dangle in a groove and then when you press, she just wants to pop off. I need to find a way to make them stronger, but with the new tool I don't have to. I don't recommend at all.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Money Box Price

Disappointed with the quality

Lower jaw half curved. I tried straightening it out with pliers and it started cracking. The threads were very sloppy. I went ahead and attempted to install the valve. Luck held and I finished the valve. Not as well built as it looks on Revain.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Compatibility

Good but could use improvement

Works but would work better if the bent end of the spring was included. The Briggs head is a little tricky to align as it hits the surface of the valve cover before it fully compresses the valve spring. A bent end would have prevented this.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • So-so

Worked well Didn't bend or break

Used on first day of receipt. It worked great for compressing small engine valve springs. Works just as well as the heavy expensive ones I have at the store. Bought these to see what all the fuss and negative comments were about. Worked well and easily. Suitable for minor engine repairs.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Easily repairable

This article is complete garbage. If I could give zero stars I would.

This article is complete garbage. If I could give zero stars I would. It started out great and then broke down before I could remove the clips from the spring assembly. Worst of all, I bought the tool and then postponed the start of the project so the return period had passed when I tried it and it broke.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Small parts

Decent quality at a good price.

I used this tool on a Ford Model A engine where I was unable to use the normal tool for that engine due to damage. I then used it on an old lawn mower engine and it worked on both occasions. The tool is strong enough to compress the Model A engine's much stiffer valve springs. He treated old lawnmower engine valve springs as if they weren't there. I would recommend this product for its intended purpose.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Some small things

Can be made to work

I had to fix it. It's not solid, but adequate. Quality control could not crop the frame. When installing the split stem it locked at an angle well over 90 degrees and the tool did not provide enough clearance and slipped off the valves on my small 25hp Kohler engine. I had to insert a piece of sheet metal, cut narrow and folded once, into the gap between the fork that was too short and the steerer tube. He then held the best angle and I was able to remove the old ones and install the new…

I'm under pressure

Wanted to lap the valves on an old 5.5hp Tecumseh engine. I have 2 different valve spring compressors for small engines but none work. This one works great. By far the easiest to use, but I felt I had to keep a little internal pressure on it to keep it from popping out of the valve spring. It came with two sizes of suspension forks, but I didn't think it would stay in place. I used a screwdriver to remove the spring retainer in case the fork slipped off. I love my fingers and my wife hates…
