This DVD player does exactly what it promises. Takes standard DVDs and plays them in HD quality. My only complaint is that I had to purchase an HDMI cable separately, but it was a small price to pay to convert my standard DVD collection to HDDVD, which this player does. I have no plans to buy Blu-Ray discs unless they stop making standard DVDs. Then I need to buy a BR player, but until then I just need an upconverted DVD player. The picture quality seems to me to be as good as the Blu-Ray demos
