⚡ Schumacher BAF-C50 High-Amp Clamps for Efficient Battery Charging and Testing Review

So far they seem good although I've only used the charger twice since installing the clips. They appear to be good value for money. I soldered the charging leads to the terminals as described by several previous reviewers. I also used a liberal amount of heat shrink tubing over the wire insulation from the inside of the wire crimp of the terminals to about 1 1/4" beyond the end of the terminal to act as strain relief.

I have replaced the old clips on my charger. There are two sets of sewing feet at the end of the clamp. Strip the wire, but leave enough insulation for the rear tabs to grab it. Use needle nose pliers to bend the tabs, first bending the tabs on the bare wire and then the tabs for the insulation. so only fold over one tongue at a time. If you have a vise, you can put the final pressure on it, being careful not to get carried away.

Obviously the guide is for an older version. I decided I wanted to reduce the stress on the cable, so I routed the cable through the clamp in a U-shape and pressed one side against the insulated cable. This puts more stress on the thicker insulated cable. On the other side I folded it and soldered it for better conductivity. I like how the clamp uses both sides as conductors. Aside from the horrible instructions, I'm happy so far.

Judging by the instructions, the product has changed over time, but the instructions have not been updated. The instructions mention putting the stripped section of wire under the "core ring" and the unstripped section under the insulating wings. The problem is that there is no "core ring". There are only two insulating wings at the very end of the terminal, making it difficult to crimp both the unstripped and stripped portions. Not only did I crimp the lugs on a handle, I also soldered copper wire to it. I had a 12 gauge wire that worked very well. Crimping problems may occur with 16 or 18 gauge. There is no large oval gap in the front teeth of the clamp. This can make it difficult to secure electronic wires and connectors. Clips can be too big for small electrical connectors.
