So Far So Good in Generators & Portable Power

SP-200 - tested with ammeter, outputs about 20 mA in medium cloud conditions (Michigan) when connected to my car battery. 2.4W / 12.5V = 19mA Just enough to overcome the 14mA draw from a car battery. Installed on an old S-10 truck that is little used. I "RTV" glued it to the dashboard.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Quick Start Guide

Broken solar charger

I tried two of these solar chargers and neither worked. Both returned. I tried testing in direct sunlight by hooking up a voltmeter to them. Both chargers showed no power from the charger. The ad states that this charger is charged internally by sunlight from a window and on cloudy days.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Not bad

Just buy the cheaper untitled version, maybe it's better quality.

Good. It gets two stars because it basically works. Now for the bad. The cable that comes out is of extremely poor quality, it has nearly snapped in half twice in four months of ownership. I fixed it the first time, the second time, that's why I'm writing this. I can't fix it because the wires inside have come loose from the panel, now it's officially junk.

Pros
  • Solid design
Cons
  • Bad impression

The exchange process was great, the new one was there 2 days before.

arrived damaged but the box was totally rotted so I'm pretty sure it's the fault of the courier. the truck rarely drives and was always dead when I wanted to use it. plugs into the 12v accessory port and has been working great ever since, a cheap simple battery saver that requires no effort, wires etc.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • I'm not sure if

Only for $20.00

Shipped very quickly. just what i need to install same brand solar charger/maintainer. I like that it is connected directly to the battery 24/7. You just have to remember to disconnect the plug in the cabin before you start the car. I've placed it in a retractable panel on the sunroof of my 2015 Subaru Forester where it's sheltered from the elements yet absorbs some much-needed daylight. I have always had a lot of experience with Schumacher products over the years. The only suggestion I have…

Don't waste your time on this item

I have two of these, one for each car, Chevy and VW. I tested them with a multimeter and they do what they say. Unfortunately this is not enough. to keep the battery charged over time due to the parasitic nature of the components in any vehicle. It even connects directly to the battery, not the cigarette lighter socket. For example, just a month on the beach, VW, the panel on the dashboard was attached directly to the FULL SUN battery the whole time. at the end of the month the battery tested…

Reverse polarity prevents it from working with some controllers

I bought this Schumacher solar panel along with a 12V Schumacher SPC-7A solar charge controller so I can keep it connected to the car battery for a long time. Time without worrying about charging. The output on this panel is reversed so it will not work with the SPC-7A as the connectors are molded and the polarity cannot be reversed without cutting the wires. I hope it's a manufacturing defect, otherwise it's really bad product planning at Schumacher. After purchasing the Battery Tender 5-45W…

Not suitable for your car

I bought this to keep the battery charged/supported in my SUV. I don't drive this car very often and the battery tends to drain. I don't want to run wires from the outlet to the car so I figured a dash mounted solar charger would be a good option. I used a multimeter and found that this unit actually delivers its advertised performance. The quick connect clips are handy and come with either a cigarette lighter or battery clip. The first thing I tried was the cigarette lighter. Because my car…

Read the instructions first.

I live in Wyoming where the winters are severe, especially when it's -40 and below. My 2006 Chevrolet Silverado is partially outdoors where it takes the brunt of the cold. Moving here, I realized early on that having a battery service technician is essential in these harsh environments. For the past 12 years, I've relied on my truck for 32-mile trips to get supplies for my ranch. I have never had a battery problem since hooking up this battery tender and the battery is original equipment that…
