Description of Seachem PhosNet Phosphate Silicate Aquarium

REMOVAL: Seachem’s PhosNet is a granular ferric oxide (GFO) with high porosity, high surface area, and high binding capacity. It works to rapidly remove phosphates from silicates from both freshwater and saltwater. BINDING: PhosNet will not release phosphates or silicates back into your tank or aquarium due to its ability to exhibit strong binding capabilities, consequently reducing phosphates and silicates to very low levels. USE: The reduction of dust produced by PhosNet makes this GFO product easy to use every time you are wanting to remove phosphate from your aquarium. FILTRATION: For best results, PhosNet should be rinsed before use and placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it but not so that it tumbles against itself in flow. It may be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter and a filter bag is recommended. DIRECTIONS: Use 50g (1⁄2 cup) of PhosNet for every 200 L (50 US gallons) saltwater or 400 L (100 US gallons) freshwater. Leave PhosNet in place for 4 days, then test phosphate or silicate concentrates. As long as concentrations are above 0. 02 mg/L, the product is not exhausted as over-treating is not recommended.

Good GFO product for aquarium pumps and filters

Good GFO product. It has kept my phosphates fairly under control, but I have decided to go back to Phosguard as I find aluminum based phosphate binders just work better for non media reactor applications. But if you're looking for something a little less aggressive, this is a great solution in a nice pre-packaged package.

Pros
  • BINDING: PhosNet will not recycle phosphates or silicates back into your aquarium as it has a strong binding action which results in phosphates and silicates being reduced to very low levels.
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Works very well for fish and aquatic animals

Have been struggling with high phosphate levels since I bought a reef tank from a friend. Since water changes weren't enough, I decided to give it a try. I can honestly say that in my experience it works very well and is fast. Seachem has higher capacity products but since they all really talk about changing after 4 days I see no reason why you need to spend extra money unless you are completely exhausted. But then you probably don't do water changes :)

Pros
  • REMOVAL: Seachem's PhosNet is a granular iron oxide (GFO) with high porosity, high surface area and high binding power. It quickly removes phosphate from silicates in fresh and salt water.
Cons
  • Long delivery time
