UPDATE - April 13, 2019: I finally had a chance to test the black o-ring yesterday while preparing a full pot of soup (cooking time 40 minutes). It seals perfectly, even though the retaining plate in the lid was a bit loose. As mentioned, it fits snugly against the inside edge of the lid and creates a good seal. I'm new to pressure cookers and after using mine a few times I've learned that a few extra accessories make it more convenient and versatile to use. An accessory was required to have a second/additional silicone O-ring both in case the original wears out and to use separate rings for savory and sweet recipes to avoid flavor transfer. I think these seals are fake. They didn't work in my 6 liter Duo instant pot. A "burning" error message appeared every time I tried to use each of the seals. The machine was never able to seal properly and get the right pressure, so the food burned. I make food for my child using the Instant Pot and had to throw the food out because it smelled and tasted burnt. We recommend purchasing replacement seals directly from the Instant Pot. It was a waste of time and money, in addition to wasting food.
