Bought for a 16 year old boy. He's a little more observant than most and has finally figured it out. However, the fit is so tight that we couldn't take the box apart and thought it might even be glued. A thin screwdriver freed him, and the more he opens and closes it, the easier it gets. I bought 4 of these for my niece and nephew. They are of an age where they would rather have money than a gift. I like to make them work for it. I bought boxes of maze puzzles, but they quickly realized that they could just use a magnet to move the ball where they wanted. These boxes are too easy to open. One of the crates snapped with a single tug on the wood. They are not as well made as I had hoped. The ones that didn't break only took about 5 minutes to solve. They are 13-17 years old. Good

Instructions printed incorrectly to start, step 4 comes before step 3. But even when done correctly, the box still won't open. I felt like it wanted to give, but it was too tight. Another commenter mentioned that wood swells, so that could be the problem. It also looks like it's been glued together, so it's possible the moving parts are stuck with excess glue and won't open. they were out of order) so I'm sending it back with something better.

The box came shrink wrapped. Instructions for opening are at the top. This was good for me as I had to put the gift inside before giving it to the recipient. The box was a bit difficult to open as it was very tight. But after opening it several times it started to come loose. The only improvement I would recommend is making the box wider to fit a gift card. The length was good, just not the width. I only put money in it because I can fold it to fit in the compartment. Update: 12/13/17 Bought as a replacement due to poor workmanship of the first one. Unfortunately, the new wood grain pattern makes it obvious how to open it, and it's a lot looser than the first, so it's easy to open. In the picture you can see a very light tree. It's a box :( I would return it and get something else but it's too late for me to get new ones, load them with money and ship them to their final destination.
