Almost useless streaming media player product

The IDEA behind the Slingbox is fantastic. The ability to watch DVR programs remotely is a feature that honestly should be STANDARD in today's world, but cable providers choose not to allow or overpower it. FiOS is now starting to offer, and it's only just started appearing on the Comcast X1 platform, but then again, you're paying way too much for the service. One of the satellite providers offers it directly. I bought it to watch DVR broadcasts recorded in another house. Granted, it works, but

GARBAGE! in TV & Video

I bought this in 2014 just in case the slingbox burns out again like the previous three I bought. It's 2016 and I wouldn't take it in my pocket if I didn't have a (Slingbox ID) which isn't listed anywhere on the box. So I called them and the woman on the other end told me she couldn't help me or give me instructions on how to fix it if (I could give them the original receipt) as proof of purchase. I told her I bought this slingshot from Revain and she repeated again (I can't give you any help…

So far it has always been good.

You must have read the complaints here about the new ads being choked down your throat. I'm probably one of the few people who don't mind ads in free content. If I'm watching a Youtube video and there's an ad in front of each one, well, it doesn't matter - I'm watching free content and it's a 30 second ad at most. But Slingbox isn't free. Not even close. Even for that old model, you're paying over $100 for hardware, $15 for a mobile app, and you STILL need to see ads? This is absolutely…

Pros
  • Same as everything before

Ignore positive reviews DO NOT BUY!

Do not buy! Bought a little over a year ago. Refused to pay $15 for iPhone apps but that was fine - only required outside on game day and in our practice room. Worked great until the end of the 14th football season. I used it last summer ('15) and was bombarded with ads. I had to install a plugin that would disable the ad-free interface I had before and insert ads on startup and place banner ads on the right side of the screen and below. Takes up a lot of space until you can expand it to full…

It just might be better than sliced bread!

This is one of the best products I have purchased. Being able to see what's playing on my DVR, including live TV, anywhere I have an internet connection is almost better than sliced bread. Connecting the Slingbox to the TV and my home network was easy. The initial setup of Slingbox was easy too: go to the company's website and click View, select my location and create an account. I love that Sling doesn't ask for a lot of personal information, just an email address and password to set up an…
