A wonderful throwing knife set

A wonderful throwing knife set. While I like the paracord wrapping on the handle, it tends to upset the balance of the knife. If you're serious about these knives, take the slide off and you'll find that the blade and handle are very well balanced.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Not reliable

Good throwers are the best at weapons

These are good throwing knives. They have a certain weight, so they hold up well. They are balanced and fly accurately when thrown correctly. My main complaint is that the paracord wraps on the handles are not secured in any way, so after a few throws they start to unravel. Looks pretty silly, you'd think they tested what they sell. I re-wrapped them and then applied superglue to connect the ends to the wrapped part. Or you can just remove the paracord, if you don't work with these knives you…

Worth the money

These knives offer excellent value for money. The knives are light, the blades are exceptionally sharp and the black coating is really strong. I've thrown these knives hundreds of times now and they're still black and still sharp. I leave out the 5th star because of the paracord wrapped handles. The paracord holds up well, but it only holds on to the knife by tucking the ends under the wrapped portion (although that's perhaps the point of allowing the paracord to be easily removed). One end of…

Fun and great quality

I ordered these SOG throwing knives after much research and comparison to other brands in this range. I have a lot of utility knives with a good sharpness, so I didn't really want that. When throwing I only cared about a good sharp end and they excel at that and can also use it as a spare cutting knife. Many complain about wrapping the handles with paracord. Yes, it comes off easily, but all you have to do is catch the ends between a few turns and melt the tip. Stays in place after over a…

Steel is softer than expected

My first set of throwing knives so take that into account in this review as I'm not an expert and having metal of this composition can be desirable. After I learned to throw, around my 3-4. After a 10 minute throwing session at a dead acacia tree, I noticed that the tips were actually bent! Def is softer steel than expected, although dead locust is very hard wood. It's important to bend back and forth (without bending the blade) in a "smart" direction when releasing and breaking loose from the…

Good quality scabbard. The knives have a good weight and .

Knives arrived well packaged, quality sheath. The knives are of good weight, the blade is sharpened and the point is sharp. I would have preferred not to put the paracord on the handle as it tends to unravel but is easy to take off. Knives are easy to throw and fun when they stick. I had to play with the distance to determine what distance is best. The best distance for a beginner like me was about 7 feet. After a few dozen throws, I feel like I'm gaining experience. I guess I don't want the…

  • Not happy with everything

Light knife, poorly wound handle, neat design.

The knife is quite light and when used for throwing the paracord on the handle snaps. So get ready to redo the handle to fix it. I personally found it easier to throw him off the blade. Not suitable for casts without spin. Generally better suited for indoor throws as it is so light. Best feature: The knife looks great; neat design. I gave it 3 stars because of the pen and its "pen weight". Update 10/10/2017: After removing the original paracord, I replaced it with cotton paracord. This gives a…

First throw didn't impress me

It pains me to say these negative things about SOG because I love them and have used (and still do) their knives every day for years, but here is my review of Throwing Knives: The First Throw of Each Knife, one of which bounced off a cardboard target and struck a tree root. You might think wood isn't a big deal, but obviously wood is the sworn enemy of blades. Two pieces came out of the blade. I expect blades to be damaged, but if wood has chipped a blade in one place and dented it in another…
