I finally had the opportunity to use this to repair a microphone cable. Iron is thin and light. It heats up quickly. I tinned the tip using just one temperature setting (300), melted the old solder (the desoldering pump works great) and then soldered in the new wire. Liked the tip set. fans will love them. At this price you shouldn't expect industrial quality. Haven't used it for its intended purpose yet (replacing the ridiculous brazed-in dash lightbulbs in my 2004 Yukon is GM's shame on that). Disclaimer: I am new to soldering and have only worked with a few irons. However, I don't think it takes expertise to identify the obvious flaws in this product. CONS: The soldering iron will only melt the solder if it comes into contact with it at a certain angle. This means you have to clumsily twist and turn the wire iron until you get the working angle.
