Works well and handles TWO SSDs. Done works with Mac OS

Just received this item. Sonnet has a newer version that supports two drives and may be faster but is much more expensive which is why I chose this product. There is an expansion panel that allows you to install two SSDs. Tomorrow I will add another SSD. After turning on my Mac Pro (early 2009), the SSD popped up immediately. I plan to put the system on one SSD and the applications/users on another. I use a NAS for my data. Very happy with this decision.

Pros
  • 1 year trial
Cons
  • weak

FIRST. IF YOU NEED TO BUY SOMETHING PRODUCED BY SONNET, GET IT! Don't buy from any other company (unless it's Apple). Sonnet has been making Mac stuff since the early days of the Mac, I've bought boards from them back in the Apple Quadra 950 days and their stuff has always worked great, EVERY TIME, 100% ERROR FREE! I had to update 2 of my 2010's. Silver MacPro 12 Core and bought 2 of these each to keep my SSDs running at top speed (500MB R/W, with Apple SATA they were at 250MB R/W) and they got

Works in my Mac Pro 3.1

I'm leaving a review because I saw at least one person had problems with it. It booted with my Mac Pro 3.1 out of the box. My serial number starts with a "B" so no firmware update is required. Performance is what I would expect from my old SATA 6 SSD (150MB/s write, 550MB/s read). I bet it could almost match my m.2 drive (on a PCIe x4 card) with a better drive. I'm very excited to free up these 3.5" bays for a RAID10 hard drive array in this old workhorse.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Some little things

I have a Mac Pro 3.1 from early 2008. I installed a Sonnet Temp card with a new 1TB Samsung SSD and the boot drive with Carbon Copy Cloner on copied the new SSD. I then changed the boot drive in the system startup settings to a freshly installed SSD. The operating system boots to the new SSD drive and everything works great. The best part is the increase in performance. The computer boots up in a flash. You definitely need to breathe new life into your old Mac Pro. I also installed a Sonnet USB

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Clarity

this should be for old aluminum cases "cheese grater " Mac Pros

I'm editing this a year later. And the cost is down 50% and the device is still holding its weight. I still get pretty good SATA 3 speeds for my SSDs. I haven't tried it with 1TB 2.5" drives, but I can bet the result is the same. Still satisfied after a year. I have a Mac Pro 2008 (v3.1) which, like most computers of the time, has a SATA 2 (3GB/s hard drive interface). While this is certainly better than the old version of IDE or ATA/PATA , it lacks a lot compared to newer drives that can…

Pros
  • Great selection
Cons
  • So So

This card allows your OSX operating system to boot from a PCIe slot, but it is only recognized as an external drive, not an internal one Journey. Only SATA ports are recognized as internal. You can change the ICON image to reproduce this sentiment if you'd like. However, I believe that in the end it is not a problem. This works very well for OSX. However, this does not work with Boot Camp. You CANNOT use Boot Camp on the same hard drive as OSX on PCIe. This functionality is not a fault of…

An easy way to add internal storage to a cramped desktop computer.

This 500GB SSD card has been added to an HP desktop computer for additional internal storage. HP, like many factory computers, is small and cramped inside. This card only requires an unused PCIe slot with eight or more lanes. There is no need to disassemble the computer to access the drive bay (if available) for your drive, and no wired connection to the motherboard and power supply is required. For me it was worth saving the usual installation of additional internal memory.

Pros
  • Special Offer
Cons
  • Performance Speed

The best upgrade for an aging MacPro

Thoughtful hardware design that allows you to add an extra module/platter for another SSD if your computer supports long cards. Plate and all screws included. As far as I can tell there are no compatibility issues with OSX 10.9 and 10.10. I've used one SSD as a boot drive and the other as a scratch for Photoshop in a 2010 MacPro and it works great. I have tested many SSDs from Crucial, Intel, Adata, Plextor and they all work fine. I've since sold a 2010 MacPro with this card, but plan on buying

  • even an old one understands

  • Not everything fits
