Sony used to make great DVD-RWs, but now they are no longer available.

When I first got these Sony DVD+RWs over a decade ago, these DVDs were great, but now it's hard to find rewritable discs from Sony or anyone else - or don't give more than double or triple their price, it's a shame nobody else makes DVD recorders and discs. elsewhere in the world they're getting recordable Blu-ray discs and recorders now, but not us.

Sony DVD+RW discs. good for DVD-RWs

I've been using Sony DVD+RWs for recording network TV for over five years and apart from replacing a disc when it's too scratched, I've had I don't have discs problem with defective disc. I usually buy ten packs of discs/cases at a discount at my local store, but now I have a lot of extra cases so I only needed the discs. The price for the drive in this bundle was about half what I paid for the drive and enclosure set. ($10.00 for ten discs + boxes)

Frustrated with accessories and consumables

I didn't send them back because most of those discs were good; but there were some bad discs in the box. Some of them seemed normal until you finished burning your first program, then the update took too long and you couldn't start or name the program and you found you had a bad disc. However, they were better than the Kodak and Maxwell drives I bought which had so many bad drives that I had no choice but to return them for a refund. The Verbatim discs seem to be the best I've found so far.

Pros
  • One year trial

Extremely scratchy, sometimes unreliable

I bought these discs to use in my VHS/DVD combo to transfer home video from VHS and Mini 8 cassettes to DVD and then digitally to my computer. I have been careful with these discs but have found that their plastic side scratches very easily. When overwriting old information, I've also noticed that frames from previous shots appear in new ones, suggesting that the information may not be securely overwritten to the old footage. For the price they are good. Next time I'll buy something better.

The quality you want/the quality you expect.

These DVDs are just what the doctor ordered for recording the desired TV program or video. Like other DVDs, they reliably support dual playback, but you risk losing data in faster modes. This is a common problem with all DVDs. For those who use DVD-R or DVD+R, the DVD+RW is much closer to the old VCR in terms of utility and portability. With 'R' DVDs, if you switch a partially burned disc to another player/recorder you risk losing some or all of your data. With RW, you can take the disc out…

Good and durable RW+DVDs

Very nicely packaged RW+DVD media spindle. I used one of the optical discs to record a real-time playback of my "StochasticMusic" program of May 15, 1988 on my old Commodore Amiga 2000. I connected the Amiga composite output to an old Magnavox VHS DVD recorder/dual composite input and burned it to a Sony RW+DVD disc. I used an old Apple Cinema Display as a monitor and connected it to a Magnavox recorder via the HDMI output using a BlueRigger HDMI cable and HDMI to DVI adapter. On the same CD, I

  • Some problems

Great service, great price. I collect movies by the thousands and through a very expensive trial and error process I found that Sony +RW is the only brand that would work for my Magnavox ZV42MG9 DVD recorder. I have tried Memorex, Phillips, Verbatim and Maxell but the results have been disappointing and disappointing. When I insert these discs I get the message "Won't burn to this disc". and in a stack of 25 discs, only 5 of them can actually be formatted for writing. My only concern is that…
