SONY MACHINE REVIEW

I am very disappointed in the sound quality of this Sony portable CD/radio player. Does not match the marketing description. Also, after purchasing it, I found the same model cheaper at my local Walmart store for $40. Really disappointing. I hate begging but I really should get a refund.

Working CD player cover

Bought this model because my old SONY CFD-980 BOOMBOX CD Cassette Mega Bass had a spring loaded CD player cover that couldn't be repaired. Sony's spring-loaded latch appears to be proprietary, and a regular latch can close the lid, but the "open" error message still appears. This model is smaller and has better sound quality than the older model.

If you like static this is for you

To be honest, I don't like anything about this radio. I mostly get hiss on AM and although we have a local FM station it's not possible to select one. I liked the CD player until it stopped working. The CD spins busily and the display shows "NO CD". The keys are all recessed and difficult to read. Expected more from Sony.

A great way to mess around with old collections that are gathering dust.

What I like best is that I can play my old CDs and cassette tapes. Since I broke my old set many years ago, I haven't had a chance to play my old collection of hundreds of CDs and cassettes. You can always rely on the Sony brand. Portability is great. The sound quality is not as good as a device with larger and more portable speakers for surround sound.

Does not play Type II cassettes

I have returned this product. I wanted to use it to play old cassettes, each type II. The description of this item does not mention that these cassettes will not play. It just says it will play cassettes. When I received it and read the manual, it said the tape recorder does not "support" type II, III, or IV tapes. Type I only. I don't know why that is, but it doesn't play any of my tapes. The seller must make this point clear in their online description of their capabilities. Whatever the cost
