Description of Speedball Premium Mounted Linoleum Block

PREMIUM LINO BLOCK– The fine, flat surface on the Speedball Linoleum Block will reproduce clear and sharp artwork. The mounted block measures 4 x 5 inches. MOUNTED DESIGN –This linoleum block comes mounted on 3⁄4 inch medium-density fibreboard (MDF) for your convenience. The wood is very dense and strong and will not crack or peel. SMOKY TAN COLOR – The linoleum is a smoky tan color which is easy on the eyes during extended carving and easily accepts pencil transfers. 1/8 INCH CUTTING DEPTH – The surface of the lino provides a 1/8 inch cutting depth. It is very easy to cut and carve. Ideal for both novice and professional printmakers. OIL-BASED OR WATER-BASED INKS – You can use oil-based or water-soluble inks on these carving blocks. Use one of Speedball’s Rubber Brayers to roll on your ink of choice.

Installed Speedball is THE ONLY WAY!

Take them, not unmounted and not with a speedball. I've been a Linore tailor since 2004 and have done it a lot. Believe me. Don't try these unassembled ones. First, the image is not transmitted. Second, they are too easy to carve (many mistakes). Third, when printed, they bend into your paper, causing any cut out areas to show their ugly lines. I tried them, but after all the design and editing work, the material was so flexible that the cut pieces squeezed into my composition. Pooh!

Pros
  • Materials for relief and block printing
Cons
  • unreliable

This was my first experience of block printing but I found it to be remarkably smooth. The block is cut cleanly, without breaks and cracks. Printing went smoothly and subsequent block cleaning was a simple task. I used it with the Speedball (3570) Fabric Ink and was very happy with the results. I bought two and will use the extra block for my next design. If I print more in the future I will without a doubt buy these blocks again.

Pros
  • Engraving
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen

Great for both beginners and experienced artists

I used this linoleum mounted on a speedball for a linocut workshop. With no experience, I was able to cut and get a print I'm happy with (for the first time). The linoleum was tough but not too difficult to cut. I used Saral wax-free blue transfer paper to transfer the image to the pad, then traced the blue outlines with a fine Sharpie marker. bench hook. It's not the best price you can find but I needed the linoleum fast and Prime got it to me asap.

Pros
  • Printable Linoleum
Cons
  • Can't remember
