This is an amazing whetstone. Light enough to carry around in a camping/camping backpack along with a mini belt, but good enough that I use it to quickly sharpen our kitchen knives at home when I'm not in the mood, the Ken Onion Work Sharp and just one of these to take Two knives need to be repaired. The pouch is leather and can be used as a mini-harness if needed (and that works too), although I ended up buying a separate larger mini-harness for easier and more convenient use in the field as I

Good pocket stone for power tools and hand tools

Spyderco is known for their ceramic stones and this stone has the same stones as the SharpMaker just in a pocket stone shape. A few things if you think about it. It has a medium to fine grit, which is generally much finer than similar stones from other manufacturers, so it's more of a touch-up and general sharpening stone than for reprofiling or repairing an edge. Get Double Stuff 2 (CBN/Fine Combo) or Fallkniven DC4 (Diamond/Ceramic Combo) if you want something more aggressive. As mentioned…

Great sharpener, but not for beginners.

These are the same stones used in the Spyderco Sharp Maker sharpening system that I own. One side is medium grit gray stone and the other side is white fine sand. This is a flat stone that is held in the hand and used to polish nicks on the blade. The size makes it easy to slip into your pocket or backpack to take care of your cutting blade on the go.
