This is not a soap dish for in-between shaving. This bowl is used to create shaving cream by applying soap to a shaving brush and then spinning the brush in the bowl. You dip the shaving brush under hot water, dip it in soap, and then swirl it around in the bowl like you're beating eggs. The result is a warm shaving foam that glides smoothly over the face, lifting the beard and lubricating the skin for a smooth, comfortable shave. This works very well.

The shading in the picture made me think it was a hexagon or an octagon. It's not, it's just round. It says it's stainless steel, but feels like plastic and weighs about the same as plastic. I put a magnet on it and it almost stuck to it, so I'm guessing there's a certain percentage of steel in there. Build quality is good but I have a few issues with it. Although it's small, the sides are quite tall. That means you have to put the brush deep enough in the bowl to hold it by the end and not by the handle like you should. Also, the handle knocks on the rim of the bowl because it's so deep. Also, due to the smooth interior of the bowl, you'll need to stir longer for foam to form. With the handle rattling around the edges and the depth of the bowl, I wouldn't recommend it.
