inaccurate thermometers and timers

Both thermometers read about 10 degrees Fahrenheit at 212F and 350F. Metal clips for holding thermometers work well for frying.

Pros
  • Good Thing
Cons
  • Ratio Set

Lots of tipping is good for instant read

Lots of tipping with a standard pan which can be dangerous when working with hot oil. The resulting clip does not match the image.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old
Cons
  • not reliable

Just what I needed for thermometers and timers

I need a food thermometer and they are great! They are accurate and get the job done. They're also long, so when we're frying something big, they come in very handy.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Functionality

Says water boils at 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The clamp is useless

The clamp is useless unless you have unusually thick pans. I have a Cuisinart pan with contoured edges and it doesn't hold a thermometer. Aside from not being properly calibrated and having no adjustment, it is sent back to Revain. Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit at sea level. I'm at 1,000 feet above sea level so it should be 210 degrees Fahrenheit, but when the water boils it barely reaches 200 degrees Fahrenheit. If you "tap" the dial lightly at a certain temperature, it jumps to 10…

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Damaged

I purchased this pair of 190F water bath thermometers from my store. The temperature is not particularly critical, but I must avoid boiling. When I tested these thermometers in boiling water, they both read about 7°F (i.e. boiling water read 205°F). However, this difference is easily explained by the difference in altitude and air pressure between where they are made and where I use them. An important feature is that they both read ABSOLUTELY the same. Knowing I need to use a small correction…

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised
