Speaker/mic for Frostbite Race Committee on the water

I purchased this speaker/mic for use during the Frostbite Race Committee in Boston Harbor. I wear a lot of clothes and need my hands free, so my radio lives in a jacket pocket specifically designed for a portable radio. The radio remains on a working channel and the speaker/microphone clips to a jacket collar or hood elastic within range to make a call. My only complaint is the volume. I have to hold it all the way up and make sure it's aimed at my ear so I can hear the call in noisy situations

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Worries Me

Simple enough for CB and radio

This "mic" works well with my standard Horizon HXD850. I also tested it with HX851. ) to connect the microphone to the VHF, -- remove the protective cover -- insert the "fitting" -- and tighten. For a mechanical "clumsy" like me, that's not IIOTTMCO. casual observer] 2) I was disappointed by the low volume of the microphone. Regarding the last point, it is important to note that a portable VHF is inherently less powerful than a boat-mounted one. Many boats have a microphone jack. in the cockpit

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish

Non-submersible good for CB radios and two way radios

I bought one of these to use with my SH portable radio. This works great, but you have to pay attention to two things. First, the volume of the transmitted sound is very low unless you gently hold the microphone directly to your lips and speak loudly directly into it, which is normal when hand-held. However, if you have a mic on your lapel or shoulder (which I do because I need my hands free), you have to turn your head and speak into the mic (or unplug and hold the mic), which is very…

Pros
  • Long range
Cons
  • So so
