Maybe a blade would be better.

Not as good as the old Fatmax with tape measures. I originally had the 16" and 25" and the 25" had tape that had torn from use. I replaced it with this 30 foot long and it became more brittle. I put it aside and went back to using the old 16- Foot lens for most of my settings.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Hard to say

Doesn't fix best when measured linearly

Item arrived in original packaging but does not fix itself when measured. The selection is excellent. Tested at Home Depot prior to purchase and all worked perfectly. It's a shame. I liked that it was made in the USA. Working on a refund. Bought because it works and although hard to get it to block, it's a good product. up to 4 stars,

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Very expensive

Replaces my 20 year old Fatmax

Excellent tape measure. Would give it 5 stars but it doesn't clean as well as my old one. It needs to be jiggled or "pushed" in on part of the band to allow it to pull in further on its own. Maybe it was necessary to wrap it tighter, and maybe the factory didn't do this for fear of damage from uncontrolled retraction?

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Low repairability

Thinner with smaller radius

They used thinner spring steel with about half the flex as before. Maybe the plan was to make it lighter to get the same excellent result with less metal? Not in the real world. Thing is, it's now a flimsy band that can't even stand upright in 5 mph winds with less than 4 feet of stretch. Now I have to buy multiple tapes for each order (large customs houses) instead of just one a year. Someone else has to make a decent tape.

Pros
  • Excellent price
Cons
  • Quality

Not like before

I'm not that happy with this band. Yes, it looks like a real Stanley Fat Max, but it's wobbly and flexes and flexes way, way more than I remember my previous Fat Max straps. I don't know how this tape is different. Maybe it was Blade Armor that made my other bands better, I don't know. The description claims that the first 6 feet of this tape has blade armor "for durability". When I have more time I'll take a closer look and see how I can get a better tape.

Pros
  • Linear measurement
Cons
  • Obsolete

Another stupid tape measure

How long has Stanley been selling his junk without testing it in the field? When you pull the tape over something, hook the blade first. Good luck trying to make it with that or whatever "fat" cartridge they release in bulk. The hook of the blade is not visible. You can't just plug it in and walk away. Then there is the castle. You'll develop carpal tunnel syndrome trying to fix a blade that's so difficult to use. Then there is the spring force. Blade engagement and locking issues are only made

Pros
  • Tools and household goods
Cons
  • New competitors have emerged

Is it a fake or just junk.

I bought a Stanley FATMAX tape measure primarily because I needed a tape measure at least 60 inches long for many measurements of my garage ceiling from a 10 foot ladder. I returned it because it was defective. In many, many attempts, I have not been able to stretch it past 4 feet without the band collapsing at the 4 foot mark. These bands are rated as outstanding at 11 feet. I was finally able to finish my project with my wife holding the 2 x 4 tape. I was in a rush before purchasing and…
