Not for all 440 series, not for 440A

The product description is not entirely accurate as this rod does not fit the Starrett 440A. I'm only giving a low rating as the item description is misleading. The rod itself is excellent quality, just doesn't match my 440A. :(

Pros
  • 1" gauge for use in various applications, accuracy +/-0.0002"
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

It worked perfectly. I had to measure the depth.

Works great. I had to measure the depth of a tiny hole and didn't have an 0-1. This one arrived today and I measured the damn hole and you know what? It was 0.005 inch for a flat, so for a milling machine! I focused on that and took out 0.00499. Took me 30 minutes and wow Uncle Bob!

Pros
  • Knurled ring lock nut for a secure fit
Cons
  • Something else

Superb quality: gauges

Although this rod is being sold as a replacement for my old Starrett NO. Mic depth 440. Adjustment nut is bigger than mine which is why the thimble cap is not fully screwed on. It works but doesn't last, buy as many threads as the original poles will allow. I believe Starrett no longer makes this type #440. Minus one star for misleading advertising. But it's still a great product, just not for me.

Pros
  • Hardened steel for durability and accurate measurements
Cons
  • Legacy model
