Product failed after 18 months

This product was purchased to dock 2 laptops, share files and 2 monitors. Only used computers with docking station, maybe twice a week and only with light to medium personal load. No business. Right from the start I noticed the noise coming from inside the device. This is my first experience with this docking station and I thought the noise was normal. On 09/13/2019 the device did not work. I reinstalled the drivers downloaded from StarTech.com according to the instructions but to no avail. I…

Works great on the new Lenovo ThinkPad T470 (work laptop)

Works great on the new Lenovo ThinkPad T470 (work laptop) in a docking station. In connection with the Dell Latitude E6430 with the Dell E-Port docking station, it could not be fully made to work. After playing around with it for hours, I'm pretty sure it's due to the age of the Dell hardware and early USB 3.0 (5 years). Device not working - Laptop accessory

I loved this device, it's the only KVM+ docking station I could find with DisplayLink that I need for my computer. I installed it immediately and. Nothing. The dock itself had no issues powering, connecting, and powering other devices, but it WILL NOT connect to my laptop no matter what. After seven hours of self-troubleshooting and chatting with StarTech tech support (thankfully available 24/7 via chat) the unit was found to be defective AND I was told it was discontinued so most likely I…

Updated 09/2019. Dropped to 3 stars So close to sending this back then the planets aligned

9/2019 I've been struggling with this for a while. At first I really liked it, but it is quickly losing popularity. It tends to lock for 5-20 seconds at a time. It randomly recognizes a USB device that was plugged in all along and not a new one. In this case, the video will be truncated and after a few seconds when it is restored, all the windows will be on the same screen and resized. It's very random. I removed most USB devices to mitigate this. Begin my search for the best multi-monitor KVM.

Some issues but overall very helpful (albeit with a caveat for Mac users)

First, if you're a Mac user running macOS 10.13.4 (and you probably are, if you're disciplined are). Updating your OS) Heed the warnings in other reviews and avoid this dock for now. Displays are not properly mirrored or extended due to an issue with the DisplayLink driver (I found the hard way and had to use the Apple Time Machine feature to revert to 10.13.3).
