Not a Square!: Measure & Markup Tools

If the whole point of a square is to keep you on the line, then a square is better off being a square. It's not like this. It was noticeably shifted by just 2 inches. When I squeezed it, it rotated into position, so the fact that it can wobble a bit is an issue in itself. Ironically, because I suspected it wasn't square, I tested it for the 4 inch version, which was actually square. Sure, it's cheap, but it's no use if it doesn't do what it's supposed to.

Non-Square, Non-Parallel Shank, Reverse

There are other inexpensive steel squares sold through Revain such as: B. Steelex D3383 who have released specs to give the buyer more expectations of what they are getting. This product doesn't have them so I figured it would be at least as good as other similar products I've bought in the past. I found that the 2+ inch square was 0.026 inch out of square on the outside, but acceptably square on the inside. That kind of variation and lack of squareness just doesn't work for what I'm trying to…

Sturdy construction, but unfortunately not square out of the box

Pros: Inexpensive, solid construction Cons: Not quite square on the outside. Designed for quick squareness checks of small wood products. The inner square was correct, but the outer edge came out of the square after moving the blade 1 inch up 0.01 inch (about 2-3 sheets of 20# printer paper). Was very disappointed that my square wasn't square. Originally asked for a refund but after further reflection only used a few known good squares and a reliable file to level the outside corner. TLDR: Good

VERY useful for tool setting and tightness.

Small (must have!) Compact and robust design. VERY useful for setting up tooling and achieving squareness to tight tolerances on a smaller piece. It's not as accurate as my Starret, but again, it's "enough" accurate for a fraction of the price. I don't have enough attention or time to measure the difference, it's less than 2 thousandths of an inch (i.e. half the thickness of a sheet of paper) which is fine for woodworking and tool setting. Of course, for good processing, buy purebred squares…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance

  • Doubtful
