I needed the 1" bit from this set first, the smaller bits will come in handy later. blunt and jagged teeth lost their contours. What should have taken about a 10 second workout now takes a few minutes plus a lot of upper body effort. I requested a refund and Revain handled it perfectly.
I've used them on several pine (softwood) projects. No damage, cut well enough. If you're using them on hardwood I suggest having a good drill bit. My drill is only 14.4 volts (will be replaced soon) and I was cutting hard wood with the drill and these bits were draining the battery TOO quickly. Very thin steel case from a discarded DVD player (no more than 1mm thick). The 3/8" drill bit I used made two holes and the third hole destroyed it. It also won't cut soft wood anymore. 4 stars becauseβ¦
I used 1/4" and 3/8" drill bits with a hand drill to finish some holes I had previously drilled with HSS bits. I used these Forstner bits to get a slightly better hole bottom. With this usage they did it. It is not carbide or HSS steel. These are carbon steel bits. UPDATE 8/30/2015 - I used 1/2" and 5/8" bits on over thirty 2" to 3" holes in a Ponderosa 2X6 pine board cabin door project. . heavy work. The beats worked well. better than i expected. .
