📏 Steelex D3723 4-Inch Outside Calipers Review

This is a really simple tool, just what I wanted. I use it to measure the wood I cut from logs so it's accurate enough for my purpose. Looks durable. But it's hard to read, and the line for reading the inside dimension is marked "OUT" and the line for reading the outside dimension is marked "IN"!

N Looks good but needs some work to make it usable. The sliding caliper is very roughly machined, as is the channel through which it slides. You need to grind and polish it carefully so that it can be opened and closed with two hands. After doing this everything seems to be working fine, although you have to be careful not to over do what the manufacturer should do. Compared to a good caliper, measurements seem just as useful if you're willing to put in a little work.

Compared to several similar calipers, this one is the best. Elegant even. In addition, it is useful to have both metric and inch sizes. But like some things from India, the finishing touch of the groove for a smooth glide is up to the buyer. Try a silver polish or similar soft abrasive to make it glide smoothly. I made a mistake where the slider got stuck badly on arrival. I hollowed out the white scale and found that it is the sticker that ends up peeling off. It took a lot more effort to pry…
