🧭 SUUNTO A-30 Compass: Your Perfect Recreational Hiking Companion with Luminescent Markings for Low Light Conditions Review

This is a revision of my original review. Long story short, my first compass broke and I found it difficult to contact Suunto customer service. Suunto did everything to replace my broken compass. Your replacement was shipped from Finland and arrived in California in about 4 business days. Wow. They also sent me the metric version and the USGS version just in case I'm particularly excited. Very high quality customer service. I am very happy.

Ordered and received today. 6/23/18 I pulled it out of the box and saw that the pointer didn't move. maybe I'm wrong. So I try to level it as much as possible but it still barely moves like it's stuck on something and won't move north on its own. I tested it with another compass and also with my compass app. UPDATE: DIPNDIVE was quick to reply to my email and sent me another one that works great. This is excellent customer service and I would definitely recommend them. For that I give 4 stars

well built, accurate and right size. The degree scale rotates slightly when needed, but otherwise stays in place. I received Suunto A-30. Points north. The rotating declination bar will not randomly move from where you placed it. The north pointer and bezel ring glow in the dark. I believe this is the type of material that absorbs light and then "glows" when the light is off. If you use it in total darkness I don't think it will glow like tritium (a moderately radioactive substance that glows due to decay) on a dial. I bought a Sunto A-30 in 2018. I have some compasses. I took it to the Cabeza Prieta Wilderness Area in Arizona's Yuma Desert (Northern Sonoran Desert) in February 2019, a vast area of desert scrub and mountains with no groundwater. Exactly what I ordered. This is a great compass for beginners. Includes instructions and lanyard. I still recommend that you learn a little how to use a compass and a map, because there's something called declination. Declination is the angular difference between north on the compass and north on the map. You have to be prepared for this if you want to get from point A to point B using a map.
