This worked great to add serial port functionality for phone system integration. Installation was quick, Windows installed the driver and within minutes everything was up and running. You can not ask for more!

It was very difficult to get it to work so it was returned. The drivers that came with it didn't work on my Win 7 system. I emailed the local (US) customer service team, got a reply a few days later and they said they sold the company's line of products in Asia. There were several updated drivers from this Asian company that I didn't try because by then I had spent enough time getting them to work and had given up and returned them. I solved my lack of RS 232 ports with USB to serial converters

This device prevented Windows 8.0 from updating to 8.1 on my system - error 0x30018 and rolled back to 8.0 on every attempt while the device was on the system. After uninstalling, the update is gone, but you can often reinstall problematic hardware and/or software after a successful update. Not in this case. I use this thing for my Cisco switches and it works great for what I need. I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04. The Linux drivers from the Syba website and CD are outdated. Luckily for me I found Startech drivers for the PEX4S552 item which is almost identical to the SY-PEX-4S. It's even based on the same chipset, so driver installation went very smoothly. Need an extra COM port for a low profile desktop computer. I had to remove the silver bracket on this PC card as it was designed for a long/tall profile PCI Express connector. I assumed a low profile mount was included. I'm not sure if the computer software is buggy or not, but we had trouble reading COM ports in the program. I would give this product 5 stars if 1) there was a low profile adapter and 2) the COM ports AND the software we were using were compatible.
