Tamarind Spalted Pen Blank 5 Piece Review

Soft wood, caution required when drilling or turning on a lathe. The sand is smooth. A drop of thin coats of CA glue is required to achieve a smooth shine.

I love the texture of these brushed blanks. They are very short so make sure your tools are very sharp! Prepare to grind to final size. The finished pens are great!

Good material for the price. However, it is very, very soft and I had a hard time using it. It kept splitting and tearing and also had many pincer holes. I don't see it as workable unless you fix it with epoxy or something first.

I bought: Tamarind, pen blank 3/4" x 3/4" x 5" 5 pieces. "Variable of course. What impressed me about this purchase being worthwhile was the seller's (SK Woodturning) willingness to work with me on a replacement. There were two pieces in the package I received that I personally felt were patterned too minimally. My use for them is educational, so I needed additional flashy things, let's say "awesome" and "gorgeous". .

Sells Wood Crafts: Straight cuts, no bends/deformations. 1 was heavily soiled everywhere. 1 had cracks along its entire length, but only on one side. 1, only the top half was sanded, the rest of the workpiece was perfectly smooth. The remaining 2 had very light markings along the side that were cut off when flipped over, leaving a smooth, blank surface with little or no grit. I wish there were more pieces scattered throughout. I hope I can cut flat areas and still get at least 3 badly…
