Backpacking in Running

Bought a pair for hiking. I ran 34 miles in them in 3 days and felt great. Next month we will be hiking the Appalachian Trail. I hope they last at least 400-500 miles!

Pros

Cons
  • out of fashion

Comfort is best in Athletic

They were very comfortable and surprisingly softer than they look. Didn't work with my orthotics though, profile too low. They will probably work with full size orthotics if you take the pad out. Those are good shoes.

  • Lots of positive vibes

NOT for very wide feet

Love the colors and the tread is incredibly grippy! But they are not as wide as I had hoped based on their description. Pictured is a Topo Ultraventure Pro alongside my worn out Altra TMPs. As you can see the forefoot is nothing compared to the wide toe of my Altra which fits perfectly. The topos presses the first eyelet on the inside of the forefoot. Also, the laces are not very long, I hardly tied a bow. Unfortunately I will be sending them back.

  • Few competitors

I wanted to love them but they hurt my toes

I never thought I would say a pair of topos hurt my toes but these shoes do. I don't know if it's because the upper is a little stiffer or maybe a little tighter, but it's right down where the laces hit the wrong place right near my big toe joint. It's not something I'm willing to wait and see, not for such an expensive shoe. Otherwise the fit is perfect in terms of length and width, exactly where the toe area meets the big toe joint. Unfortunately sent them back.

Still not wide enough

I have Altra Trailrunners but on the advice of my son decided to try them. In the toe area they are not wide enough for me. When I first tried them on, my pinky toe was so tight and sore. After wearing them for a day, the old neuroma reappeared due to the narrow width of these shoes. Arch support is great and is set back a bit as some people have mentioned, but it was ok for me. The heel definitely feels "hollow" and snug, but it didn't really bother me. They were surprisingly light which made…

Excellent sneakers until they fell apart after 15 hikes

Bought for hiking and hiking. They fit great and I've been very happy with them as a more comfortable alternative to the Altra. Just got back from a hike and have hiked in these shoes a total of 15 days since purchase. I wasn't sure if they would last through this week-long ride - by the second day I noticed the tread coming off the outsole of each shoe. On the last day of my trip, one boot was almost completely broken, the other is still holding up. I don't expect lightweight shoes like these…
