Easy to use, best in networking products

I installed this USB adapter on my Windows 10 PC. It was as easy as plugging in the USB and inserting the CD to start the installation. It connected to my 5G network with no issues and I get a strong signal from two rooms from my router. It works better than the adapter I had in the PCI-e slot, plus my old one only got a signal on the 2.4GHz signal.

Pros
  • Good build
Cons
  • Appearance

Works great when downloading drivers from Mediatek chipset manufacturer. http://www.mediatek.com/en/downloads1/downloads/usb/ This is RT357X or RT3573. The latest driver was released in February 2015. The TPlink website has a very old version and refuses to install on Windows 10 at all. The newer one from mediatek installed and works fine on Windows 10.

Runs at 5GHz on Raspberry Pi2!

I wasn't sure if this would work for my purpose; my Raspberry Pi2 as HTPC. My original wireless adapter (2.4GHz) was slow so streaming movies would buffer to the point where the movie could not be viewed. Although this adapter isn't listed as working with any flavor of Linux, it literally plugged in and worked, even auto-detecting my 5GHz network! Movies are now streamed effortlessly. The adapter is a bit oversized, almost as long as a Raspberry Pi2, but the included extension cable and…

Improved WiFi connection

My Lenovo laptop's internal WiFi card is connected at 70Mbps to 100Mbps but is only connected to the 2.4GHz band. My Netgear 1GB dual-band router works on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and after much research it turned out that Lenovo doesn't make an internal Wi-Fi card that would use the 5GHz band . TP-Link USB is permanently connected to the 5 GHz band. on average 130-170 Mbps. It's easy to set up and Windows 8.1 recognized it right away and installed the appropriate drivers for it. The USB…

The best adapter/antenna I've finally found

After encountering other brands of poorly made repeaters and getting very poor results, I finally came up with the idea of bringing an antenna or adapter with me higher sensitivity than the old OEM to experiment. My computer has an antenna. And this adapter did it, I should have 105Mbps from COMCAST and normally on a PC next to my router I get that, but in a room with so-so WiFi reception I just couldn't get more than 20Mbps, and now with Mit With this adapter I get speeds very close to…

Quick and easy installation. Strong, reliable connection

This is an upgrade for an old Linksys adapter. It probably only took 5 minutes to get back up and running with a solid and reliable connection. **Tip: Uninstall old adapter software. Every morning when I turned on my computer, I had to use the WPS button to re-secure the connection. It shouldn't be necessary. Sometimes I had to reboot multiple times in the morning to connect. I finally realized that I forgot to uninstall my old Linksys adapter software. If both worked, TP-Link would not…

Bad with Wi-Fi 5 GHz

Bad. Windows 8.1 doesn't have 5GHz drivers, so you'll need to install them from a CD. Once done, it will be recognized and connected. Unfortunately, after a few weeks of using this adapter, it started running incredibly slow. Speed tests on other 5GHz devices in the house connected to our router showed everything was fine. It was this adapter. Switching back to 2GHz fixed the issue and the speed test results were as expected. Then I found that I couldn't reconnect to the 5GHz WiFi hotspot. I've

Good hardware, slightly dodgy software

I bought this for my desktop computer which I placed in a room with no ethernet connection. It's a cute little device and I love that it comes with a USB extension cable so you can place it in the optimal position. What stops it from being a great product is the software. First, my PC doesn't have a CD drive, so I had to search online for a driver. After some effort I was able to find it. However, the installation was a problem. After several tries and many reboots I finally got it working. The

  • Some Cons

TP-Link TL-WDN4200 is a high-quality dual-band 802.11n USB WiFi adapter that supports speeds up to 450Mbps with 3x3 MIMO. The hardware, design and performance of the WDN4200 are pretty good, but the TP-Link support for 64-bit Windows 8/8.1/10 is just terrible. The 5GHz network WILL NOT WORK when using the built-in Windows driver and the Windows 8 64-bit TP-Link driver will not install as it is not digitally signed. According to TP-Link support, a ridiculous solution is to disable Windows driver
