Sharpen before use!

Works well IF sharpened. When I got mine, she was very boring. unusable. I just burned the wood and ripped it out. I was going to go back but decided to see if I could sharpen. Turns out there are some good how-to videos on YouTube. I used my diamond stones and now they cut much better.

Cons
  • Not everything fits

The screw is nonsense. Otherwise ok.

I guess I can't complain too much given the price but the fact is I broke the set screw the second time I used it which is ridiculous considering the hex wrench they give you is short. I had to sharpen the cutter, but otherwise everything is ok. Will return it and try something else.

Tool does not fit all tubes

I have found that there are multiple tube sizes in pen sets and this set only fits a select few. I also found that the trimmer was dull leaving scratches on the ends of the pieces. I now use a grinding wheel on my table saw and can fine-tune my pipe cutting process faster and easier than with this blade set.

Pros
  • Good price
Cons
  • Expensive

Works great in woodworking Blueprints and kits

I am new to pen turning and after watching videos on it I found that getting blanks to the right length should have been a lot easier. with a set of barrel trimmers. After three projects this has worked well to cut the blanks down to where the bushings meet the pipe and I am able to cut off enough wood to keep the sanding to a minimum.

It works, but with complications.

They worked as described. However, the set screw broke off after several replacements. The tool was sharp enough, but the tolerance wasn't precise. I noticed that it didn't cut the brass flush. This is due to the tolerance of the cutter to the shaft. This was very easy but a little sanding is required or the handle will have a little play when reassembling. I'm pretty sure it's the router as I used the shank on another Pen State router after drilling and removing the stripped set screw. But…

Be careful when cutting handles!

This is really great, but there are a few nuances I want to share with newbies like me. Eventually everything will spin and kind of get stuck and it'll just be a mess. #2 Be very careful how far you cut, it seems very easy, but even hardwood (purple heart etc.) is really easy to walk on, just a tiny bit. deep then it will catch on the brass bushing and rip it out even if you glued it on. #3 It goes without saying, but don't hold the workpiece to make it. Even with a vise, if you're drilling…

  • Absolutely amazing!
