The small grooves should have worked to allow the cables to run along the top of the stem, but they didn't. Was looking forward to this. It didn't fit my hybrid bike. To attach the horizontal bar I had to raise my seat at least 6 inches higher than I would rather be riding my bike which made me feel unbalanced while riding - which I do NOT want when carrying my toddler. We just love this seat. My son was 3.5 years old when he was bought and he is still driving at 4 years old. People keep us from commenting on it all the time. We use it for both short and long trips (up to 18 miles combined). We can talk about the sights we see - such a wonderful experience with him. We like to do that together. UPDATE: After a few weeks of use I have the impression that the product is well made and sturdy. I believe there is one downside that can be easily eliminated. Considering the position of the seat, when my daughter sits on it, her back is very close to the pointed front of my seat. It was easy to install and mostly comfortable to drive. I use it with my 2 year old and she enjoys the rides.
