I've used this to coat the guides on my lathe and it works great. It's soft and flexible, just the way you want it, and you can cut it into smaller strips.

Good cheap case. It's more resilient than some of the others. It should hold up to hot shavings better than plastic shavings, but I'm afraid it will swell on contact with oil. At this price you can't go wrong if it fits your car and is easy to cut.

It is made of some kind of nitrile molding or bellows molding almost like extruded. I accidentally spilled alcohol on it. The material immediately absorbed white spirit and swelled so much I thought it was spoiled. A few days later, when the white spirit dried, it returned to its original shape. I would only use it for woodworking or where it wouldn't be exposed to oil or coolant. You really have to stretch it to get the claimed 23.5 inches.

The case itself is very nice. It's about 16" wide so I had to cut it to fit my mini lathe. It's almost 2 feet long when stretched (3 inches when compressed) so I had to redo it cut to make it shorter.I attached both ends - two 6mm threaded holes on the bottom bracket and 2 more under the chuck.It's "accordion" as you would expect and the oil doesn't seem to affect it - 3 years old and it looks like new It's normal and looks good but If I were to do it again I would save money and time and just…
