Too good for ax work, but good for pocket knives.

This type of washer is commonly used to repair ax or hatchet blades. The grit of this stone is too fine for general use when sharpening an ax or axe, although when combined with a fine file it can work well as an additional tool to enhance the blade. However, it is a good combo for sharpening a pocket knife. I generally like rough stone (see photo) for working with an axe. Another observation - I can't say for sure, but I think it's actually a waterstone and not a whetstone. Waterstones cut…

Good, but there are better ones

This is a good stone and the bamboo box is great because it keeps the wet bits of the sharpening stone from spilling all over the place. However. there are better ways. I think the other is a harder rock. Really, do you see that edge on the WEIMY stone in the picture? I used this other stone to remove it. When removing, I noticed that this 320 grit stone removes WEIMY stone material faster than the other way around. WEIMY stone is softer and loses material faster. You can feel that when you…

Good stone for sharpening axes.

This works exactly as expected on a 180 (blue side) and 320 (white side) whetstone. The granularity estimate appears to be accurate. It sharpened my ax well. The bamboo box is aesthetically pleasing. It has a nice grainy pattern. The magnets are surprisingly strong and you should plan on opening this case. There is a grippy rubber base on the underside which makes a great anchoring point for the stone when using it on a table or similar. The only downside of the stone is a light shade of blue…
