Best system for sharpening kitchen knives and woodworking tools

My son is a chef and always brings his knives to our house to help prepare meals. His knives are so sharp and work so well. His chef's knife set includes a water stone sharpening set. If it works for the pros, it works for me too! For your safety, always remember that a blunt tool is more dangerous than a sharp one. Easy to use thanks to the included instructions. I'll keep practicing sharpening our knives until he can use them.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Updates

Very efficient, practical and economical

I have used traditional steels, hard and soft Arkansas stones and a modern Wรผsthof sharpener for my kitchen knives. As a seasoned woodworker, I'm used to sharpening tools with stones, but the need for oil for this purpose is a bit annoying. This inexpensive kit gives results at least as good as any other approach, and water for smearing comes in very handy. The grit combination has been well chosen to make replacing old knives easy and sharpening to a very sharp blade.

Pros
  • Power and hand tools
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Decent stone for hand tools

Not a bad stone and works well. I'm not a professional sharpener, but I was able to sharpen an old dull knife well. An angle guide is not required and the angle between the knives is different anyway. The bamboo base is fine except the rubber base set on the stone does not match the base (just the hole needs to be 1/8 inch longer). Not a deal breaker and a good price and I would recommend the stone. There are no instructions. If you are new to hand sharpening, there are many videos online toโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Tools and household goods
Cons
  • I'll write later

I took a risk the best among power tools and hand tools

I took a risk and chose this stone. One of the things that drew me in is that it resembles the Sharp Pebble brand. Upon review (at least at the time I looked at it) some of the product images showed a Sharp Pebble so I assumed it might be the OEM or related in some way. This has NOT been confirmed or denied, but I still didn't feel like going too deep. So when I received the packaging it was something like my Sharp Pebble stuff, so that was promising. (I don't use them, I have hand sharpenedโ€ฆ
