I was lucky, mine turned black as midnight. I read some reviews where they were in lighter colors. The only thing I regret are some gaps in the margins. Carefully cut off the excess. But my window has a screen so you can't see the edges unless you stand directly on it. His sleep was bad for a while so it got easier to sleep.

So although it stops a lot of light, you won't be developing film with that level of obscuration.
