Good vise for moderate loads (4.5 ")

This is a great vise for your garage or basement workbench. It's heavy enough to handle moderate jobs with confidence and has some useful features that make it versatile. The 360 Swivel is great and as other reviewers have said they now come with mounts on either side of the jaws to hold those too Pipes for cutting safely. When assembling, you must be at the very end of the table so that the fixed jaw extends beyond the edge of the table to allow clamped items to reach the floor. To confirm…

Pros
  • Pipe Capacity: 1/8" x 2" diameter pipe jaws preformed
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen

This little beast is the real deal.

I am very impressed with this vise and expect it to last long after I'm gone. So yes, 5 stars are well deserved. However, DO NOT use the paper "assembly template" provided. This is ridiculously wrong in so many ways. I wonder who gave it the green light! First, it specifically states that it is "not to scale". Say what? Tell me, what's the use of a "pattern" that doesn't match the actual item to be assembled? Especially since a real footprint would easily fit on a 1:1 scale page anyway! Are…

Pros
  • Jaw Width: 4.5" x Jaw Opening: 4" x Neck Depth: 2.62"
Cons
  • Requires Socket

Replacement for my 40 year old Craftsman

After nearly 40 years of using my Japanese Craftsman 391-5180 3.5" Using a bench vise I finally pushed it too far, stretching the bolt and breaking the tracks where the nut slides. After a bit of research, I decided the Yost 445 4.5" vise would be a good replacement. + The Yost base rotates 360º and has two locking screws - one on each side. The base has stops to prevent it from turning without The Craftsman was adjustable less than 180º and had a non-locking stop screw on the base, so you had…

Pros
  • 360 degree swivel base with (2) locks adjusts jaw direction for proper placement
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for senior
