Understand that these diets are specifically designed for durability and compact size. Very dry, easily crumbles. Looks like drywall and looks like drywall. They make you thirsty. To eat them with relish, you need water or something to drink. Barely cute. It's more enjoyable to break it up and turn it into a hot or cold mush to which you add fruit, cinnamon, sugar or whatever you have/find. Try breaking a bar in a liter of water with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, or mix well and chill for a horchata-like drink. If I had to keep them for emergencies, I would keep them along with water, a spoon and a cup. Several packets of sugar and a large ziplock bag for leftovers.
