Over the past two years we have purchased and used about half a dozen hand pumps, first all plastic in the $11-$18 range, then heavier metal/chrome and with daily im in the best-case scenario, they all went out of service after a few months. Deciding to up the price and hopefully the quality, we found this tool and decided to spend the extra money hoping it was worth it. When unpacking, you can immediately see the difference in quality. This is a powerful, well made serious instrument with excellent features. The rotary encoder is the genius of displacement. It's a little heavy and difficult to use with one hand, but I think that's a compromise with the heavy metal components. Just a few small notes. The vacuum hose that comes with the unit fits perfectly into the instrument's brass fitting, but is too big for the other fittings on the units we connect to. With a little effort and some lithium grease we were able to mount the old hose that we were supposed to put on the pump connector, which is fine. We're not sure if it's a pump or other bolted-fit devices, but someone does. As long as it works with what we have, it's not a problem. The second minor issue is the point where the pump rod goes through the top of the grip, the metal-to-metal contact point. We didn't even notice it for the first few weeks of daily use, but over time the contact point became rougher. We eventually found that wear and tear would affect usability, but another drop of lithium grease here seems to have fixed that issue for now. be cheaper than constantly replacing defective "cheaper" devices.
