Review on πŸ”§ Zurn Wilkins Model 975XL/XL2 Rubber Repair Kit for 3/4 inch to 1 inch plumbing systems by Kyle Cross

It may take a few tries and watching YouTube videos to learn the procedures.

My Experience: Very good price for this good RPZ Sprinkler Valve Leak Stop Kit, otherwise it could cost you heaps from a pro (who could use the same kit). The instructions go well with the kit. Further information. This was my first try with this product. I took the RPZ out of the yard and replaced it, the large black diaphragm seal, steel o-ring washers, red rubber seals, etc. The replacement and cleaning was done internally on the kitchen counter, not the outside plumbing. The RPZ seat bracket (which is not included in this kit and is very difficult to remove without the proper tools) is usually in good condition, but check it out. I had to assemble, disassemble, install, operate and test the RPZ valve several times before I understood how to use this product properly. I cleaned the RPZ valve with fresh water after disassembly and dried the valve after removing the old gasket, the relief valve. I also opened the safety valve and check valve handles to clean. Be careful, the internal springs can snap when you remove these two valves. Do not scratch the metal flange/cap of the RPZ safety valve with a coarse steel sponge to remove hair and small debris. Remove with hands or smooth clothing. A few things should be noted; Lightly rub grease (provided) on the diaphragm/black gasket around the outer perimeter on both sides, black and back lined, and the perimeter of the diaphragm holes. Use an appropriately sized socket wrench, not a regular wrench, to tighten the bolts over the pattern during final assembly. Install RPZ on outdoor installations. Open the handle of the water valve upstream and leave it closed downstream. Open all three air ports one at a time, starting with low, then medium and high airflow. Close one by one. The water can shoot out and remove any small dirt particles that may be present. Be careful. Close the 3rd air outlet, then the 2nd, then the 1st upstream. Open the bottom valve handle that leads into the sprinkler pipe. Perhaps you need to watch a video about repairing RPZ valves, perhaps you can learn about each of them. I was about to give up, but it worked in the last Trial 4. There may be a little dripping from below at first, but after a day or two it may be gone. Place a pan under the RPZ for a few days to see drips or leaks. I hope that goes away. I also left the internal kitchen faucet open and running lightly to avoid any eventual water hammer when opening and closing the RPS inlet and outlet valves. . Easy job, but if it keeps leaking, be patient and try again. Take it out, clean it and reassemble it and try again. I noticed that the dent on the new diaphragm seal from this kit is slightly different than the original RPZ diaphragm seal which has the same circumference of the piston and poppet. The watch membrane gasket with the black side and the other side with jagged lines needs to be placed in the same way as before. When tightening the screws, make sure the very small hole in the rubber gasket stays in line with the small inner metal cover by tightening 6 screws. If this small hole does not line up properly with the small gasket hole, another attempt may be necessary. This is a possibility, in other cases the situation may be different. (Note: The steel washer/washer also has two sides, one is smooth and the other is rough. Important. Inspect, touch and check. The smooth side of the steel washer should be put on the red rubber side, the rough side is open, tighten the screw and replace the rubber diaphragm seal at the same time. Do not grease the red rubber sealing washer - only the black ring - should be replaced.)
