My normal standard antenna hit the branches quite hard when driving my jeep off-road, and it liked to bounce a lot when ice was stuck when I drive in winter so I decided to install a shorter antenna. Not that I have a thing for antennas, but because the heavy traffic required me to hoist the antenna at least once a month. I could never hold this creature in suspense, and the beatings didn't help. I ordered and installed this antenna and just before dropping the box I read in the instructions to remove it before washing as it could break. . what what Not sure what value a short antenna brings, if hit a little it may break but time will tell.
