In general, Pro Sandpaper lasts longer than regular paper. They are definitely better quality, but they can also ruin your rubber backing pad. Grinding is accomplished by friction that causes heat. The backing of the paper is a waxy material that melts and sticks to the sander's black rubber pad. When you remove the paper you will lose a small amount of the gum that was stuck to it. Eventually you will lose pieces of the rubber padding material, rendering your grinder virtually useless. If you sand by hand instead of using a sander, this isn't a problem. Even if your grinder has a velcro mounting surface (like the excellent Wen 6313 sold here), there's no problem.
