An extension looks better, but only order one if you have one.
I have a standard 75 gallon tank. I ordered an extension but that pushed the headlights too far forward. When I lifted the gooseneck backwards, the light rose high above the water. An extension looks better, but only order one if you have a large front-to-back tank. Without the extension, the gooseneck was a bit short, so my lights were only about 6 inches from the water. (which can be a very good thing) Also, the gooseneck isn't as stiff as it should be and a little bump will force you to readjust them. I know these issues are specific to my tank size only, but you may be able to compare them to your tank sizes.
