Review on Wiss WT1 Hand Cable Tensioning by Vincent Burton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Heavy, reliable tool!

Disclosure: This is the first tool I've purchased or used to install zip ties, so I don't have much experience with it. However, I am very happy with it! I started out buying a pistol grip cable tie wrench, but then I noticed this and changed my mind. Mainly due to the all metal construction of this tool and some warnings about other types of tools jamming under certain conditions. This tool is great. I'm impressed with the build quality. The body is made from good, thick, seamed steel with a durable looking powder coat finish. The cutting blade is sharpened to a nice thick slab of the same steel as the body. The plastic/vinyl grips are thick and look like they will last a long time. The springs are also impressive - they are made of much thicker wire than I expected. They have a strong, constant restoring force and seem to last a long time. Although I've only used this tool to attach a few dozen zip ties, I fell in love. With this tool you can screw these parts in place and cut cleanly. It worked equally well for me with tiny, narrow 4" zip ties and large 16" zip ties. flush with the "buckle" with no protruding tabs. Does a nice clean job! NOTE: I thought this was made in the USA, but I called Apex Tool Group (Wiss's parent company) this morning and was told that this particular tool was made in Taiwan. However, it is a solid tool. One final note: This is an adult tool - it requires slightly large and slightly strong hands to operate comfortably and safely. If you're looking for a cable tensioning tool that kids can use, this isn't it.
