Always use 1mm. 1/2 can be useful for small beads but can break very easily when worn.

This thread has worked very well for me. I've made over 800 bracelets out of it. Very durable and elastic. There are just a few things you need to know about it. 1-Never use end caps. Caps are great for tightening bracelets. But they don't hold on for very long and always squeeze the wrist. So it's much better to tie a knot. Two to the right, tighten. One to the left, tighten. Tie as many knots as you can, make it long and thick, then glue (with sticky glue) the knot and leave overnight for 12 hours.
