My husband and I installed this pump to replace an old version of the little giant that wouldn't turn off. I also purchased 50 feet of 3/8 inch ID vinyl tubing for our 6 foot vertical pipe for a total of 35 feet with an extra check valve. I ordered a pump from Revain on Saturday for $30 retail with free shipping and it arrived Monday afternoon which was great except it just shipped in the product's packaging. All parts including the instructions were intact and intact which was a miracle. The new pump is slightly larger than the old one, so my husband had to drill new holes to fit it. A tip we only learned from a FB video after having serious trouble measuring and drilling in a low, narrow and dark place (we're both old and have arthritis π) is to put a long strip of tape over it Tape both mounting brackets to the back of the unit and drill holes through the tape on the two brackets. Peel off the tape and stick it on the mounting wall at the desired location. Make sure the tape is level. Drill two holes in the tape. Remove the tape and insert the mounting screws. As a frugal do-it-yourselfer, I researched why the old pump wouldn't shut off. I suspected a stuck float or a clogged check valve. I disassembled the old pump tank and check valve and found that the bottom of the tank was covered in an inch thick nasty looking rusty debris that was also clogging the bottom of the pump and check valve. After scraping off as much dirt as I could, I filled the tank with Iron-Out, put the block back in the tank, soaked the rusted pump base and check valve for a couple of days, cleaned it, and reassembled it. Unit. Several test runs have confirmed that both the old pump and the check valve now work like new, so we will keep the unit for unforeseen situations. Both the new and old pumps each drain in about 10 seconds, leaving about an inch of water in the tanks. Lesson learned: I will clean the new pump regularly. The manual recommends cleaning each time the oven filter is changed.
